Kalamkari is one of Iran’s traditional fabric prints in which the design is transferred to fabric by putting the mold in ink and tapping on its backside. In this type of printing, the format is called “block printing”. The type of fabric used in this print is usually cotton so it could have the most absorption rate. The carved mold material is wood. After finishing the printing and drying of the fabric, it is rinsed in cold water so they can be sure that the paints and colors are stable and not varied. Then the fabric is boiled in pomegranate peel juice so the colors will be stabilized. Most of the time the patterns seen in these fabrics are floral, although sometimes animal and human patterns can be also seen. One of the most popular calico patterns is paisley, which is also used in this kalamkari tablecloth by Atrian.
